A solemn procession was held Friday afternoon as law enforcement officials escorted the body of state parole agent Joshua Byrd from Oakland to Sacramento. Meanwhile, new information on his fatal shooting and the suspect has come to light.

OAKLAND — Authorities say a 48-year-old parolee fatally shot a state parole agent on Thursday inside an East Oakland office building.

The death of Joshua Byrd, 40, marked the first on-duty killing of a California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation officer in seven years.
