SpaceX launched a mystery satellite to geostationary transfer orbit (GTO) from Florida's Space Coast early Sunday morning (July 13). A Falcon 9 rocket lifted off from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station Sunday at 1:04 a.m. EDT (0504 GMT), on a mission SpaceX called Commercial GTO-1.

The next astronaut launch to the International Space Station (ISS) is just around the corner.

SpaceX launched a Falcon 9 rocket carrying the Commercial GTO 1 mission at 1:04 a.m. Sunday, July 13 from Launch Complex 40 in Cape Canaveral Space Force Station. Known as Dror-1, the payload was a geostationary communications satellite for Israel. No further details were released.

The payload is listed as "Commercial GTO-1," which the company hasn't used before. The Dror-1 satellite uses mostly Israeli technology.

Cameron County commissioners voted Tuesday to issue a beachfront construction certificate and dune protection permit to SpaceX, paving the way for the rocket maker to have a factory nearby with tools for separating air into nitrogen and oxygen needed for testing its Starship rocket.
