As the WNBA season hurtles towards its conclusion and four teams compete for a spot in the finals, the Las Vegas Aces staved off elimination with a win against the New York Liberty, while Napheesa Collier made franchise history for the Minnesota Lynx as they took a 2-1 series lead over the Connecticut Sun.

The Las Vegas lead was three at halftime. Then the Aces outscored the Liberty 21-6 in the third. The Aces held them to 2-for-14 shooting and forced seven turnovers. It was 73-55 after three. The margin then swelled to 25.

LAS VEGAS — Aces guard Tiffany Hayes earned the WNBA Sixth Player of the Year award Friday, the league announced. Hayes received 38 of 67 votes from a national media panel. New York’s Leonie Fiebich finished second with 21 votes. Shatori Walker-Kimbrough of Washington and Marina Mabrey of Connecticut were the next two in the voting.
