Denny Hamlin's chances at completing the crown jewel sweep have been dampened, after a wreck in Saturday's qualifying session at Indianapolis motor Speedway.
Denny Hamlin topped Saturday’s abbreviated NASCAR Cup Series practice for the Brickyard 400 – going fastest with a lap of 182.039mph (49.44s). The Joe Gibbs Racing driver jumped to the top of the board in the final few minutes of the session.
What a hit! Denny Hamlin was more than two-tenths up on the pole time, and then he found himself in the wall. Indianapolis Motor Speedway has been unforgiving to these NASCAR drivers, and Hamlin had an all-time great qualifying run end early.
Briscoe now has claimed pole position at three out of four of NASCAR's "Crown Jewel" races, having won poles earlier this year at the Daytona 500 and Coca-Cola 600.
