Chargers wide receiver Mike Williams, 30, has announced his retirement from the NFL, two days after being placed on the PUP list.

The Los Angeles Chargers received news on Wednesday night that Mike Williams, a first-round pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, will be retiring from the NFL. The news comes just days after it was announced that Williams would open up training camp on the PUP list. That's not ideal for a player the team chose to bring back in free agency this offseason.

Mike Williams' return to Los Angeles won't happen after all. The veteran wide receiver informed the Chargers that he plans to retire after eight seasons, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported on Thursday.
