True to its name, the Spanish dancer is a dorid nudibranch that glides through the ocean in rhythmic undulations like a flamenco dancer. Usually found crawling slowly on reefs in the Indo-Pacific and Red Sea, they can also swim through the water column when threatened. Their dazzling colours, much like a dancer’s bold costume, signal danger, as toxins absorbed from sponges they eat can be used to defend themselves and protect their eggs.
